Shamanic Arts & Energy Medicine

What brings someone to my energy medicine practice?

I became interested in energy medicine because of the benefits I experienced for myself and because of its gentle, graceful and profound healing nature.  Coming to understand that the main component of healing is located in the energetic, I incorporated the ancient teachings and healing practices in my work as therapist.

The practices of psychotherapy and energy medicine mutually inform and complement each other and flow together in my work accordingly. The validity of the ancient wisdom is now also supported by findings in neuroscience about the workings of the brain.

My energy medicine practice is founded on the ancient wisdom of the Shamans.

As a Shamanic practitioner I work predominantly in the energetic and as therapist I have solid foundations in mainstream practices. Often when people come to my practice, they have tried “everything” but still have not found their peace and wholeness.  People are longing for a wholistic approach without having to go through a system that encourages fragmentation. They come to see me because they don’t want to dwell on what is wrong with them, but like to embrace what gives them hope and healing. They come because they are lost and are seeking to reconnect with the universal matrix, with the sacred, the beauty and the grace.

 What is Shamanism?

Shamans were the first healers, looking after the health and well being of their communities. They were also the first professional psychotherapists. Their tradition of knowledge is tens of thousands of years old and the essence of their teachings survived because they are effective, universal and encompassing all of life. Shamanism is a spiritual practice; it is a way of life.

The Shaman is self-referencing, this means they create their own rules and are committed to living with absolute integrity and in beauty. They are not only concerned with the well-being of others, they are Earth-keepers and work towards the greater good.

Shamans work in two worlds, the visible and the invisible. They are the mediators between the spiritual world and the physical world.  The word Shaman means “one who knows’. Shamanism is the most ancient methodological system of mind-body healing known to humanity. Shamans use their knowledge to maintain health and strength, to deal with serious illness and to ease the trauma of death. Ancient Shamanic practices are found all over the world and their fundaments are remarkably similar in their teachings and methods.

 How does it work?

Energy medicine heals through light and spirit. The ancient teachings explain that we are surrounded by a luminous energy field. This field is composed of pure living energy that is vital to our health and determines how the body heals, how we live and how we may die.    When these vital reserves   are depleted through illness, environmental pollutants or stress we suffer disease.

When we heal the Luminous energy Field, the physical follows. According to the old teachings the Luminous energy field contains an archive of all our personal and ancestral memories, of all early life trauma and even of painful wounds from former lifetimes.

By working on the Luminous energy Field, Shamans can treat illness before it manifests in the physical body.  This intervention is not at the level of the body or the mind, but directly on the Luminous Energy Field. When the imprints of disease are erased from the Luminous energy field a person returns to health. This form of energy medicine relies on the minds ability to create health.

The ancient healers recognise four levels of reality. Each layer stores a different quality of energy.

The first one is the physical level, the level of body and matter. This is the literal level and its language is chemical.

The second level is the level of the mind, the symbolic level, the level of psychotherapy. Its language is verbal. The level of the mind informs the body, creating psychosomatic health or disease.

The third level is the level of he soul, the mythic. It is the visual level, the level of imagery and informs the mind and the body. One can not access the deep structures of the psyche through language or words but it can be accessed through imagery. The closer to the essential, the more powerful the work.

The fourth level is the level of Spirit, the level of the energetic or the essential. Its language is pure energy. If you want to change all the other levels you intervene at the level of spirit. The ancient energy healers do this by accessing the luminous Energy field.

The four core healing practices of the Shamanic energy medicine practice:

Illumination:

Illumination is the process of tracking for imprints in the luminous energy field that predisposes us to physical and emotional states of un-wellness. During the illumination these imprints are being cleared from the energy field . This happens when or before they manifest in the physical or psychological as disease. The illumination process erases the imprints and overwrites them with light so we are no longer unconsciously guided into repeated emotional and physical ailments.

The extraction process:

During the extraction process heavy, unwanted energies and entities that don’t belong to us are being removed from the luminous energy field. These can be energies such as rage and jealousy that have been directed to us and that have penetrated the defences of the luminous energy field. Some of these are crystallized energies that can embed themselves in the physical body. Others are fluid energies that flow within our luminous energy field.

Another form of extraction involves entities that can attach themselves to us when we have an affinity to them. It is believed that these can by example be relatives that have died unconsciously and who are caught between the worlds. They can also be manifestations of our own projections, thoughts and beliefs.

Soul retrieval:

Soul retrieval is a technique that is applied to recover lost resources and energies that we need for our well being and development.  These resources were lost when our essential self fragmented as a consequence of trauma that occurred in this life or even in a former life time.  During “soul retrieval” the shaman revisits the traumatic events that were the cause of “soul loss”. They journey into a client’s past along a time-line to retrieve that part of the soul that fled, a quanta of energy, that needs to be reintegrated for the person to become whole again. It is also possible to journey forward along the timeline to retrieve a desirable destiny.

Rites of Transition:

In the west we have forgotten the rites of passage, the rites that mark great changes in our life, that honour the past that needs to die and embrace who we are becoming. The greatest of these rites is the death rite that marks our final journey back to the world of Spirit.

When we die a portal opens into the spirit world. If we carry a lot of emotional baggage or when there is unfinished business, it is difficult for a spirit to make this transition and it may remain bound to the earth.

During the final rites the Shaman assists the dying person through a process that brings completion to their life in order for them to die consciously and peacefully. The luminous energy field will then be disengaged from the physical body, the energy centres will be sealed so the soul can not re-enter and is able to make its journey back home.
